Background and activities

The Advanced Ceramics and Composites Laboratory of the Institute of Nanoscience and Nanotechnology of the National Centre for Scientific Research "Demokritos", was founded in 1990. Since that time it has grown and is now active in a wide range of scientific and technological fields of international impact with emphasis on the development of Space exploration technologies in collaboration with leading European Institutions and companies.

Research

The current research activities of the laboratory are focused on five main scientific and technological fields.

Facilities

State of the art facilities for procesing and characterisation of ceramics, metals, polymers, composites and natural materials. Emphasis on mechanical, thermal, catalytic, microstructural properties of bulk materials and coatings.

Services

State of the art facilities and expertise guarantee high level scientific and technological services.

Publications

Recent publications and presentations in international journals and conferences.

Training

The laboratory offers significant capabilities for training students, employees, and the unemployed on technical subjects of its speciality and its research activities based on the expertise of its scientific staff and the technical facilities available.

Experience and expertise in all aspects of materials science and engineering as well as design and production of electromechanical scientific equipment.
